EnviralTech LIMS

Enviral Tech, led by CEO Shula Jaron, offered viral surveillance for buildings, primarily focused on COVID-19. They collected samples from customers' buildings, test them in their lab, and return results telling each customer whether a virus has been detected. Enviral Tech contacted Sembit in June 2020, having come recommended by another lab that had partnered with Sembit in the past.

Enviral Tech was tracking all of their lab and test data in online Google Sheets, and the volume of data was getting out of hand. The spreadsheets were very unstable at that size, and in some cases rows of data would simply disappear. On top of that, the team was manually creating reports and certificates to send to customers, a process that badly needed to be automated. As a startup moving fast to deliver COVID-related results, timeliness was critical for their customers.

Enviral Tech wanted to replace their unstable spreadsheets with a proper Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) that could collect data, analyze it, report results, and send those reports to customers. They needed a system that could handle their growing data volume, stay reliable, support their evolving calculation logic, and support refined workflows for reporting, with a customer portal later under consideration so customers could log in and retrieve their data directly.

Sembit built a web-based Laboratory Information Management System on a reliable and scalable relational database backend, replacing the flaky spreadsheet system. The new system let Enviral Tech upload the data they were collecting, store it reliably, analyze it, and generate and send reports to customers.

In just two weeks, Sembit created a system that met all initial requirements. Over the following three weeks, the team imported and cleaned up Enviral Tech's entire backlog of spreadsheet-based data, adapted to the customer changing their calculation logic three times, and refined the workflow for creating customer reports.

Sembit delivered an alpha version in nine days and a fully launchable version five days after that, getting Enviral Tech the system they needed remarkably quickly. The LIMS worked really well for them, meeting their needs within their budget, and the partnership has continued on a weekly basis with ongoing updates and new features. Enviral Tech praised Sembit's responsiveness, constant availability, and detailed, frequent updates, with the CEO noting, “I completely trust them to accomplish what we need accomplished.”
