Our Ranking Methodology
To create our list of top web development companies, we compiled data from seven of the most widely used platforms where development firms are reviewed and rated. Each review and its corresponding rating were gathered, and then we calculated a summary score for each company across every platform.
The overall rating we display is based on a Bayesian average. A Bayesian average is a statistical method used to produce a more balanced and reliable rating by taking into account both the number of reviews a company has and the ratings given in those reviews. This approach helps prevent companies with only a handful of extremely positive or negative reviews from appearing artificially over or underrated. In other words, companies with more reviews have more statistical weight in the final calculation, while those with very few reviews are adjusted toward a more neutral baseline until they accumulate more feedback.
The companies we've reviewed are all headquartered in Oregon and the greater Portland Metro Area as opposed to large companies that station an employee or two in a shared workspace and use that to claim Portland locality. If you go with one of these firms, you will be working with people who are genuinely located in your timezone.
