Kashi LIMS

Kashi Clinical Laboratories runs a sophisticated clinical testing operation that depends on software to manage every step of the laboratory workflow. Sembit partnered with Kashi to build a custom Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) tailored to the way the lab actually works, and has continued to grow and support that system over the long term.

At the heart of the system is a primary web application that handles all aspects of running the laboratory: accessioning samples, compiling test results, managing customers, producing reports, billing customers, and handling insurance. A customer-facing web portal lets clients place online orders and check the status of clinical tests.

The platform is deeply connected to the rest of the lab's world, with more than 50 software integrations spanning label printers, lab equipment, customer software, genetic databases, and health reporting jurisdictions, all backed by a SQL Server database of 494 tables.

The initial release in 2014 was relatively small, supporting the lab when it had just one line of business. Since then the system has scaled to support seven lines of business and received major updates when Kashi added support for COVID testing during the 2020 epidemic.

In 2025, the LIMS was migrated from on-premises infrastructure to Azure, and Sembit led a data warehouse project that pulls LIMS data together with data from other apps the business uses to inform Power BI dashboards. The result is a large custom system that has been continuously enhanced and supported for more than a decade.

Kashi LIMS shows what long-term partnership looks like: a custom platform that started by serving one line of business and has grown to support seven, absorbed new demands like COVID testing, and modernized onto Azure with cloud reporting. By pairing a feature-rich core application with more than 50 integrations and modern analytics, Sembit has given Kashi a system that continues to evolve with the laboratory.
