Automotive Parts Manufacturer
The customer is an automotive parts manufacturer that supplies alternators, radiators and radiator cores, spark plugs, AC compressors, evaporators and condensers, and starters.
This system was built for their aftermarket customers, including small mechanic shops, individual buyers, and distributors. It was designed not for mass manufacturing or direct factory supply, but for people buying replacement parts after a vehicle is already in use.
The Challenge? Returns Without a System.
The customer needed to support warranty, RMA, and RGA (Return Goods Authorization) requests, but customers could not simply return products without approval, and each return required authorization and documentation. The existing process was inefficient and paper-based, with no centralized system for managing return requests and limited ability for customers to select the product they purchased, upload photos, track previous requests, or receive confirmation. They also needed to integrate with their existing backend systems, including AS400 and WC Fields.
The Goal? A Structured Return Workflow.
The customer wanted a system that would enforce their return authorization process, ensure large or expensive items could not be returned without approval, and provide a smooth, digital workflow for customers to select purchased products, upload photos, submit return requests, review prior submissions, and receive confirmation emails. Their goal was an efficient and structured way to manage aftermarket product returns.
What We Built? A Returns System.
Sembit built a dedicated RMA/RGA return system and integrated it with the customer's primary portal. The system included online return request submission, product selection, photo uploads, confirmation emails, downloadable PDF forms (heavy duty, light duty, and others), and a history of previous return requests. It integrated with AS400 and WC Fields, their warehouse control systems.
The Results? A Faster, Clearer Process.
The project was delivered on time and on budget, replacing and significantly improving a manual return process. It improved the speed of handling return requests, the clarity of the return workflow, and consistency in authorization. The system has remained in active use since its launch in 2017, continuing to support their aftermarket return operations and providing long-term operational value without requiring rework.
Conclusion
By adding a dedicated RMA/RGA return system with their existing ordering portal, and integrating it with their AS400 and WC Fields systems, Sembit delivered a solution that has reliably served the aftermarket return operation since 2017.
